Why use a physiotherapist after a cancer diagnosis

Physios with special post-graduate training can help you through your journey. Side effects from cancer treatments such as surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy can include:

  • Fatigue

  • Weakness, mobility, and balance issues

  • Loss of range of movement, cording and scar tissue

  • Aches and pains in joints and muscles/abnormal sensations

  • No motivation to exercise

  • Poor body image

  • Poor sleep

  • Difficulty breathing normally

  • Swelling that may be a precursor to developing lymphoedema

Seek an assessment by a lymphoedema physiotherapist early!

Ideally, a first appointment would be soon after diagnosis to take baseline measures before surgery and other cancer treatment like chemotherapy and radiotherapy.
